Wildwood Junior Golf Information
2010
Junior Golf if open to members, ages 7 through high school. Children ages 5 and 6 may play if accompanied by a parent each week. Families with regular Family Memberships and Social Memberships are welcome to join the Junior Golf program.
3, 6, or 9 Holes
Junior golf is separated into 3 levels of play. Golfers choose whether they want to play 3, 6, or 9 holes each week. The third week’s choice is what the golfer will play in the Championship on the final week of play. Children 10 & up must play at least 6 holes – from the Junior Tees with cones set in fairway or from the red tees. It is strongly encouraged to place your golfer in the appropriate level and tee according to their skill level. It helps to keep the golfer from getting too frustrated and speeds up the pace of play for everyone. If we notice that the golfer is not in the correct level or tee based on score we can move them to where they would be best suited for enjoyable play. It is up to each individual child/parent to determine if they want to play 9 holes, which is from the white tees or the red tees. Boys ages 13 and up are to play from the white tees for 9-hole play.
Friday Tee Times
Juniors must sign up by Wednesday at 3:00 each week if they plan to play that Friday. Signup sheets will be available on Friday morning (during junior golf check-in) and will be posted in the Pro-shop for the remainder of the week. Please try and sign up with golfers that are playing the same level of play (3, 6 or 9 holes) and from the same tee location. This also helps to keep the pace of play. Final tee times will be made on Thursday and if any changes that need to be made with scheduling I will contact you on Thursday. If you do not sign up by the deadline, you will not be guaranteed a spot to play. If you sign up and cannot play, please contact Amy Johns or the Pro-shop to cancel. A no-show is a nuisance for the volunteers that run the program and sign up to score golfers. Please keep in mind that tee times are just that…you are expected to be here ready for play and head to the tee at the tee time you signed up for. Showing up late pushes play back for everyone and we cannot allow this to happen. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your tee time to check-in by the Pro-shop and meet your group and volunteer scorekeeper. We cannot stress how important this is.
*If you are late for your tee time, your group will be sent to the first tee without you. If you join your group late, you cannot make up any missed holes and you will receive a score of 10 on the missed holes.
Volunteers
Junior Golf in not possible without volunteers. We need a volunteer for each group that signs up each week. Please be involved. You are welcome to help every week and are strongly encouraged to score at least one time for each child you have in the program. If you work and are unable to schedule a Friday, please help us out by finding a grandparent, aunt, uncle or friend that could fill this obligation for you. We need every family that signs up to do their share and volunteer – it’s a lot a fun and great quality time with your children.
Clinics
The first week of junior golf is a scheduled clinic for all 3-hole golfers and those that are playing other levels but are NEW TO THE PROGRAM. This is set up so that instruction can be given before your first tee for instruction of proper play and course etiquette and rules. There will be a clinic for the 6 hole players and also a clinic for 9 hole players with the exception of those entering high school – you may play 9 holes that week instead of attending the clinic. Several members of our “golf family” and Dom Williams and the Middie golf team will be conducting the clinics. After the clinic, the Junior Golfers can play a regular round of golf (3, 6 or 9 holes) if they have a volunteer to accompany them. All junior golfers are encouraged to attend the clinic – if you are not in town for the date of your clinic, you are encouraged to attend one of the other scheduled clinics.
Golf Bags
After play, all golf bags must be set down in the grassy area between the Pro-shop and the cart barn. Junior golfers must not set down their golf bags on the pavement or bag rack in front of the Pro-shop.
*All junior golfers are to walk during play. They may only ride in the golf cart driven by the volunteers if first or last hole are far from the Pro-shop. When riding in the golf cart, junior golfers must be seated on the seat with no one sitting backward or standing on the cart. Volunteers are expected to make sure that the golfers in your group follow these very important rules. This is for the safety of everyone. Golfers may use their own pull cart or the few that are by the Pro-shop. If not using a pull cart then golfers are expected to carry their own bags.
Registration
Registration is $20.00 per child. Checks should be payable to Wildwood Junior Golf. Registration forms are attached to this email, available at the walk-in registration and in the Pro-shop. The forms and payment can be left in the Pro-shop with the attention of Amy Johns – Junior Golf if you are unable to attend the walk-in registration date. Please make sure you completely fill out the registration form, especially level of play, age, contact phone numbers (we may need to get a hold of you concerning Friday tee times) and an email address for special notes or alerts. It is imperative that each registration form be filled out properly.
Thank you so much for taking the time to familiarize yourself and discuss the above information and Rules for Junior Golf with your junior golfer.
We strongly encourage all members of the appropriate age to participate in this program that we are so lucky to offer. It’s a great time and may even start a new love of the game.
Rules for Junior Golf
The carts must remain outside the blue lines around the greens. Do not park the carts in the fairways.
Junior’s bags and pull carts MUST NOT be laid on or pulled across any putting green.
As the greens are the most sensitive area of the golf course, make sure the juniors do not run or jump or take full swings during play on the greens. Also please remove and replace the flagstick carefully and keep juniors from stepping on the edge of the cup.
Volunteers – please keep play moving. Volunteers are there to keep score, not to give in-depth lessons.
A tally sheet will be given to volunteers along with scorecard that must be turned in to the Pro-shop following play. Players should pick up their ball after 10 strokes before reaching the green. They should place their ball of the edge of the green farthest from the flagstick/cup. Players are allowed up to 5 putts per green. After the maximum of each then the player must pick up their ball.
Please keep in mind, that without proper golf etiquette and following of rules Junior Golf would not be an option. The rules are for all golfers that use our course not just for the juniors. We appreciate the effort made by everyone to keep our course beautiful and fun for all!
